New research suggests a diet with too much salt may increase rated of autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes, according to a recent story from Reuters.
Researchers studied mice that were genetically engineered to develop multiple sclerosis. The mice showed worse symptoms when they ate a high-salt diet, as opposed to mice with lower salt-intake.
Results show salt could have a role in triggering autoimmune diseases.
The study was published in the science journal Nature.
