Medications that are used to treat high blood pressure, called ACE inhibitors, could slow the rate of decline in dementia patients.
Researchers in Ireland studied 300 Alzheimer's and dementia patients and found that those taking the drugs had slightly slower rates of cognitive decline.
The patients who were just starting the treatment also experienced a boost in brain power.
Researchers say there need to be more studies before patients take the drugs for dementia.
The observational study was published in BMJ Open.
