Vitamin D could play a critical role in a cancer patient's survival, according to a study published in the Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Chinese researchers found that patients with high levels of vitamin D were more likely to survive and remained in remission longer than patients with vitamin D deficiencies. The link was especially strong for breast cancer, lymphoma and colorectal cancer.

More research is needed to pinpoint exactly how much vitamin D would be needed to help cancer patients.
