There's a growing movement that is adding new meaning to the saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." A new program is working to permit doctors to prescribe fruits and vegetables to patients.
With the prescriptions, patients can then obtain produce for reduced cost at farmer's markets.
Two hospitals in New York City -- Harlem Hospital and Lincoln Medical Center -- just joined the movement.
The patients must qualify financially, and also get nutrition counseling.
The prescription program is part of an organization called "Wholesome Wave." For more information, visit the Wholesome Wave website.
