New research suggests eating nuts regularly can help lower your risk of death, particularly from cancer and heart disease. Some advice on adding nuts to your diet:

HOW MUCH:

The American Heart Association recommends four servings of unsalted nuts a week. A serving is a small handful - 1.5 ounces of whole nuts - or 2 tablespoons in nut butter form. For example, there are about 23 almonds in a serving.

WHAT KIND:

Peanuts or tree nuts including almonds, walnuts, cashews and pistachios. Eat them as a snack or add to other foods.

WATCH OUT:

Nuts have a lot of nutrients but they also have a lot of calories. A serving of peanuts or almonds is about 240 calories.
