Women who had high blood pressure during pregnancy may be more likely to experience hot flashes later in life.

A new study out of the Netherlands looked at more than 800 women who visited a cardiology clinic. A third had preeclampsia during pregnancy.

Researchers found more of those women had hot flashes and night sweats during menopause ,compared to women whose blood pressure stayed stable during pregnancy. They were also more likely to experience severe menopause symptoms.

The study was published online in the journal Menopause.
