SEATTLE -- Fitness Instructor Levana Benabe looks like one of those people who's been fit all her life. Not true. A car accident took its toll.

"It was very frustrating," Benabe says. "I couldn't even drive a car because I couldn't lift my arms because I would pop a rib out of of place."

Then she discovered Yamuna Body Rolling and went to Vancouver, British Columbia for training.

Pilates Seattle International Director Lauren Stephen was so impressed with Levana's transformation that she decided to offer Yamuna classes at her studio.

"The one thing that sets it apart from other kind of body work out there is that you're bone stimulating," says Benabe. "You're actually working very closely on the bone."

Amanda Graham has knee arthritis and found she quickly regained range of motions.

"After the first class I could move my foot all the way up this far," she demonstrates. "I was shocked I had no pain."

The movements, using different sized balls, are slow and rely on gravity to tone and relax muscles.

"It's very easy to motivate yourself because it feels good," says Benabe. "You're giving yourself a deep tissue massage, so people are like, 'I don't want to work out, but I do like a deep tissue massage.'"

Cyclist Diane Paine said she actually prefers this to massage.

"Because it gets in there deeper in a way where you know where you're stiff," said Paine, who found Yamuna addicting.

Lauren Stephen explains how the technique works.

"The body is actually balancing out and releasing tension in the muscles that overwork so the underworker muscles come alive and go, 'Hello! Here we we are!'"

It may look easy, but. Alyssia Holmes says Yamuna can be challenging.

"Holding yourself is really a lot more work than it sounds like. And balancing on that ball, it does help with weight loss," says Holmes.

Benabe says she owes her success to one thing.

"All I do right now is just body rolling. I've managed to lose 65 pounds and just completely change my body--stronger than I've been," she says.

Unlike other fitness programs, Yamuna participants are encouraged to buy the ball and do the exercises at home between class sessions. Yamuna started in New York City and is named after the woman who created it.

Actually Yamuna Body Rolling is great for active athletic people as well as people who do not like exercise. It is an amazing component for runners, tri-athleates, avid gym goers, yoga and on and on. It really helps keep your body going so you can do all of the things you love to do. The balls are designed to really get into the muscles and the routines are much more specific than randomly rolling on a ball. One person commented that they need a harder ball, which is actually a misconception you would be amazed at how much more release you can get if you try out this technique. I take regular Yamuna Classes and can really see the difference in my body. The DVD's are good but a class with an instructor really makes a difference! At the top is the link to the official Yamuna Body Rolling website. If you go there you can search for classes and instructors in Washington. That should be enough to get started!!

I bought the Save your Shoulder dvd with the balls when I heard about Yamuna, I had a frozen shoulder and couldn't even put my hand in my front pocket. After a few weeks of Yamuna I was putting my hand into my opposite side rear pocket! It was amazing. The DVD's really go into depth in describing how to do it and make it easy to do at home. Rosydar: I got mine at the allaboutbodyrolling.com website, easy to order and I got it quickly.

I bought one of these balls the day after I saw this story. It's a great method for working on my spine, especially my always out-of-whack neck. Surprisingly, it does feel a tiny bit like a massage!

I was amazed when I saw this segment. I've been doing the same thing with medicine balls at the gym and at home. As a pretty muscular guy, I need the harder balls to really break down the muscle knots. I discovered it as a pain relief effort in between visits to my massage guy. I didn't know that there was a name for what I have been doing except pain relief. The soft balls would just be squashed under my weight. But the harder balls-espically the eight pounder can really get in between the shoulder blades, in deep into the hip flexors-lower back area and can be a tremendous relief for my thighs when they get too tight. Now I am not just that weird guy who does those funny things with the medicine balls...I am the Yamuna Guy.

On the broadcast last night they said a list of places that offer this service would be on the website, so where is that information.
