Children who stutter do not appear to suffer from emotional or social problems. That’s the conclusion of a study out of Australia.

Researchers followed more than 1,500 young children who stutter and found no effect on their mental health or temperament at age four.

They also found stuttering appeared to lead to better language development.

The study was published online Monday in Pediatrics.
