Good health is worth its weight in gold -- at least, that's how Dubai seems to see it.
The government of Dubai, which is part of the United Arab Emirates, is giving people a gram of gold -- worth about $42 -- for every kilogram they lose over a month. It's part of a campaign to fight growing obesity among citizens.
The 30-day weight-loss challenge was launched Friday and coincides with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month when people refrain from eating or drinking during daylight hours.
The top three dieters can win gold coins worth up to 20,000 dirhams, or $5,400.
