SEATTLE – Doctors are seeing more cases of sleep deprived patients who are sleep texting.

Sleep expert Dr. Marcus Schmidt tells WTHR-TV that sleep deprivation can trigger common motor behaviors during sleep, including reaching for the phone when it goes off. Schmidt suggests keeping your cell phone away from the bed while you are sleeping, maybe even in another room.

Schmidt admits the phenomenon is new, so there isn’t a lot of empirical data to go with it.

We want to hear from you. Have you discovered that you’ve texted in your sleep?

I have sleep texted before! It was a couple months ago. My friend texted to see if I was still awake and I replied, "They are sleeping and clean living." Perfectly spelled and everything. They replied "What? Who are you talking about?" I didn't see any of the texts until the morning, I was so confused! We all got a good laugh from it, though!

I can just see it now; man causes 200 car pile-up on I-5 while sleep texting LOL. I never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life.Either you are asleep or your are awake. I know ducks can have half their brain awake and the other half asleep. I've photo'd them drifting across the lake in the wind with one open and the other shut, but humans can't do that as far I know.Suppose someone in a missile silo started pressing buttons in their "sleep".

Wow, never. My cells actually get turned off when I go to bed so don't have to worry about it. Seems like a likely solution.

I have done this only once in my life....and unfortunately I was texting an ex. But, I was in highschool, so it's almost forgivable. :)

I found out I was doing that last winter! Luckily I never sent anything regrettable but thought it was totally odd that my brain would switch into text mode while I was asleep. I left it out of arm's reach and used another device for an alarm after that.
