A new study shows some medications containing cortisone might increase risk for acute pancreatitis. Cortisone tablets are sometimes used to treat asthma and some auto-immune diseases like Rheumatic Disease.
Researchers from Sweden studied more than 67,000 people. Those treated with cortisone in a tablet form had a 70 percent higher risk of acute pancreatitis. Researchers say smoking and drinking alcohol can also increase the risk.
The study was published in the Journal of American Medical Association.
