Michael Douglas revealed in an interview with U.K. newspaper, the Guardian, his throat cancer was caused by performing oral sex.

The star of Fatal Attraction, Basic instinct, and new Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra, said his cancer was not caused by smoking or drinking. Instead he attributes the cancer to HPV.

“…Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus," Douglas told the Guardian.

Douglas, 68, was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 after a numerous specialists missed the tumor.

Shortly after he was diagnosed, Douglas announced on David Letterman that he had stage four cancer, which is often terminal.

The actor has been cancer-free for more than two years and is optimistic about his future.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, HPV is one of the most common virus groups in the world, with 120 different types infecting different parts of the body.

HPV 16 and HPV 18, are known to cause the vast majority of cervical cancers, and new studies show that one of them, HPV16, is also linked to oral cancer as well.
