Community Kitchens NW is a free program through Seattle Tilth that gathers people in the community together in a common kitchen to learn how to cook nutritious meals and then build community by eating together.
"There's the educational component where we want to teach skills of how to actually turn wholesome foods into meals and then there's a real social component where people just want to get together and learn together. It's a lot more fun that way and brings our community together" said Leika Suzumura, Nutritional Educator.
Suzumura and Seattle Tilth are hoping that this movement will spread all over the Seattle area.
"It would be wonderful to see community kitchens all over the city almost in pods. It could be at a school, it could be in a church community, it could be at the community center like Rainier. It could be anywhere that there is actually a kitchen to cook in" said Suzumura.
