You can already do it with beer. Now Oregon lawmakers may allow restaurants and stores to fill growlers with wine.
It's a practice already allowed at wineries. The proposed bill would allow customers to bring a secure container to a restaurant or store, fill it with wine and take it home.
Supporters say it will save customers money and cut down on waste.
"You don’t have the responsibility of recycling cardboard and glass,” said Harry Peterson-Nedry, founder of Chehalem Winery in Newberg, Oregon. “What you got is a single keg that is totally reusable and comes back for us for refill."
What will constitute a growler? The bill specifies it has to be covered and can't hold more than two gallons.
