The Mariners home opener kicks off at Safeco Field Tuesday. And what better way to celebrate the new season of baseball than indulging in America’s second most favorite pastime: eating. After all, there’s nothing quite like diving into a hot dog and watching King Felix strike out batters in the ballpark’s open air.
Lucky for hungry baseball fans, Safeco’s food options these days extend well beyond the traditional standby of hot dogs and nachos, serving up fancier stadium fare with a Northwest restaurant twist. This year, with the help of Seattle chef and restaurateur Ethan Stowell, the new food on the menu focuses on Northwest seafood, classic pub foods like wings and more craft beers.
“Seattle has such a great abundance of seafood and it’s wonderful to offer even more of it to the fans,” said Stowell. “The wings we’ve worked on are some of the best in town, and a fantastic addition to The Pen.”
As in previous years, Safeco's hospitality partner Centerplate likes to incorporate ingredients from several Seattle-area suppliers. So expect local yummy goodness from Georgetown Brewing Company, Bonache Hot Sauce of Ballard, Beecher's Cheese, Taylor Farms Shellfish and Hot Cakes of Ballard.
