Musician: a Portrait Project captures 50 years of music in the Pacific Northwest

Photographer's incredible work spotlighting Seattle musicians.

SEATTLE --  Today Nancy Guppy and Ernie Sapiro discuss the new art show they have produced together, MUSICIAN: A Portrait Project.  You may recognize Nancy Guppy from the classic Seattle TV comedy series "Almost Live" of which she was an original cast member.  She is also a regular guest on New Day Northwest and is host and producer of the local TV show "Art Zone" airing on the Seattle Channel and KCTS 9.  Ernie Sapiro is the official photographer for Art Zone and in the 1980's played lead guitar in the Seattle bands Lonesome City Kings, The Cowboys, and The Moberly's.

2 years and 170+ photoshoots in the making, this large format photography show covers 50+ years of music people in the Northwest, including The Sonics, The Fastbacks, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Young Fresh Fellows, Sir Mix-a-lot, Merrily Rush (and the Turnabouts), and many more.  All the musicians in the show have made original music and released records, and all the subjects in the show have a connection to the Pacific Northwest.  Mostly musicians but also journalists, DJ's, photographers, producers and engineers.

MUSICIAN opens to the public on Thursday August 27th and runs thru Sunday September 13th at Union Stables (2200 Western Avenue, just north of Pike Place Market at Western & Blanchard).  The portraits are for sale and all proceeds go to MusiCares, a health fund for musicians and Friends of Art Zone, the non-profit producing the project.

The project has received much support, goodwill, and cost-breaks from donors along the way including Gibson Guitar Showroom,  Union Stables, Windward Press, ADG Printing, graphic artist Tim Gabor, Hilliard Beer, Jonathan Marvin, and  Mark Klebeck, owner of Top Pot Donuts, who has created a "musician themed" donut for the show.
