SEATTLE - In one of Seattle's friendliest neighborhoods, one of the friendliest bakeries has been serving up the sweets for more than a decade.
Pastry chef Marlena Zatloukal said, "I think we have a pretty fun team around here, a pretty fun vibe."
Owner Evan Andres agreed, "People who come to work loving where they work. I think it shows. And the customers pick up on that."
Columbia City Bakery has locals on a sugar high.
"Everyone comes in for something different," said Andres.
From their artisan breads to chocolatey treats, the bakery covers the full spectrum of flavor.
"We're kind of simple. We're rustic," said Zatloukal. "We like classic things, really clean things."
Their bread is found in dozens of upscale restaurants around Seattle. But don't expect Columbia City Bakery locations to start popping up all over town.
"Big picture has always been to stay small," said Andres. "I like being in control. I can only do that in a small spot."
Sample it from the source during Sweet Week Seattle, starting Monday September 12.
