I am big fan of first person shooter games.  The Mad Catz' F.P.S. Pro for Xbox 360 sounded like a controller that might be just the thing for me.  Let's take a look at it.

The grips have a grooved rubber non-slip layer, while the rest of the controller has a soft touch finish giving it a slight rubber texture feel.  Holding the controller doesn't feel like it will slip or slide in your hands.

The analog sticks also have the soft touch finish and the buttons have a hard plastic finish.  The D-pad has sort of a brushed plastic finish that gives it a different feel than everything else on the controller.  The extra underside buttons have a dot pattern texture so you can't miss them as you slide your fingers across the bottom.  The various textures to the different features make them easy to find and identify without looking.

Those underside buttons are the big highlight.  They are assignable with slider switches located above each one, labeled "Combat 1" and "Combat 2."  They can be assigned to function as same as face buttons.  Combat 1 can be assigned to function as the "A," "B," or "L3" buttons and Combat 2 can be "X," "Y," or "R3."

I set them to L3 and R3, the two buttons that always seem to be the most troublesome.  It took a little getting used to them, but after a while they felt natural.  No longer needing to click the thumbstick buttons really helped me with movement and aiming.

Although designed for shooter games I found them adaptable and useful in other games.  For example in Forza 4 instead of holding the L3 button down and then moving the same thumbstick to move the camera in the painting mode I used the Combat 1 button and thumbstick.  Much smoother, much easier.

The F.P.S. Pro for Xbox 360 is a wired controller, plugging into one of the USB ports on the Xbox 360.  They give you a generous amount of cord though, 9.8 feet (3 meters). They also "bling" the controller out a bit with backlights on the two thumbsticks.  You can cycle through, green, red, orange and off, depending on your mood.

I really liked the F.P.S. Pro for Xbox 360.  The addition of the Combat buttons are best thing in my opinion.  Anytime I had to hold down the L3 or R3 button and then move the same thumbstick always seemed to hamper my gameplay.  The ability to move that function to a separate button improves my mobility and made it easier to aim.  Assigning them to other buttons may help you too.

I recommend the Mad Catz' F.P.S. Pro for Xbox 360 if you are looking to improve your game.
