Seattle songwriter and Admiral Theater manager Dinah Brein, along with her cross-country songwriting partner Jan Michaels, have won NBC’s Today Show jingle contest.

Michaels, who lives in South Carolina, performed their original song on the Today Show Tuesday morning and beat out two other finalists. (Michaels performs first in the video below).

Renowned Grammy-winning record producer David Foster judged the segment. After listening to all of the jingles as if he were producing a “hot 30-second spot,” Foster chose the Brein/Michaels jingle.

“Jon called me this morning and told me the good news”, Brein told the West Seattle Blog. “He also said, don’t be mad, I didn’t mention you until the end of the segment, because my daughter would have killed me if I hadn’t led off with her.”

Brein says she and Michaels got together on Face time on their iPads and churned out the song.

“Being able to use an iPad was great plus he got to meet my husband and 3 dogs, one of which was always trying to get me to use the word dog in the song,” she added.
