Seattle duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are nominated for six VMAs, the most of any musical act. In addition, the talent behind hit songs "Thrift Shop," "Same Love," and "Can't Hold Us" are set to perform at the show.
To some, Macklemore -- whose given name is Ben Haggerty -- and Lewis have been a surprise, but not so to many Seattle residents.
Haggerty and Lewis have so much support back home they had to expand from one show to three in Seattle in December just to meet demand.
"Thrift Shop" featuring Wanz was the top song for the first six months of 2013 and is one of five songs up for the top prize: video of the year.
The VMAs are hosted in Brooklyn, New York this year and will be on air for the West Coast starting at 9 p.m. PDT.
Other VMA performers include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Drake. And rumors of 'N Sync reuniting to take the stage has many fans talking.
