SEATTLE - Four Bellevue high schools have made Newsweek magazine's Top 100 High Schools list for 2008.

International School ranked number 10, Newport High School came in at 31, Interlake ranked 45 and Bellevue High School was number 62.  All of the high schools have been on the list in previous years.

Newsweek says the list is compiled "according to a single metric, the proportion of students taking college-level exams: Cambridge, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement." The researchers take the total number of the tests taken at a school by all students and then divides by the number of graduating seniors.

"Any school with a ratio of 1.000 or higher is placed on the Newsweek list," according to the magazine.

The top ranked school on the list was BASIS Charter in Tucson, Ariz. Suncoast Community in Riviera Beach, Fla., was third. Rounding out the top 10 were: Stanton College Prep, Jacksonville, Fla. (No. 5); Preuss UCSD, La Jolla, Calif. (6); Academic Magnet, North Charleston, S.C. (7); Paxon School for Advanced Studies, Jacksonville, Fla. (8); Oxford Academy, Cypress, Calif. (9); and International School, Bellevue, Wash. (10).

The list of 100 top schools appears in the May 26 edition of Newsweek, while a list of the top 1,300 appears on the magazine's Web site
