ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to legal residents of Western Washington and Chelan County who are 14 years or older at the time of entry, including parents of children under 14. Void where prohibited by law. Winners of previous Sylvan Learning Center contests are not eligible to win another Sylvan Learning Center contest within a 90-day period.
Employees, temporary employees, independent contractors and interns of Sylvan Learning Center ("Sponsor"), their respective subsidiaries, parents, partners, other contest sponsors, advertising and promotional agencies (hereinafter “Contest Providers”) and the immediate family members of each, are not eligible to win prizes.
DEADLINES: The contest begins on December 26, 2007 and ends on January 20, 2008
HOW TO ENTER: You may enter two ways: (1) Log onto nwcn.com to enter on-line (must be over 14 to enter on-line), or (2) To enter by mail, on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper write in and tell us why your teacher is making a difference. Submissions must be 300 words or less and include your name, address, age, daytime telephone number, teacher name, school and school principal name. Those under 14 years may enter via mail. All essays must be the sole, original work of the contestant and must be typewritten or legibly printed in English.to: Sylvan Co-op of Puget Sound, c/o CMMS, 7011 23rd Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98115. All mail entries must be submitted or postmarked by January 20, 2008. No mechanically reproduced mail-in entries will be accepted. ONE ENTRY PER PERSON, nominating a single teacher. Entries must be postmarked by the stated deadline. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline for any reason.
No responsibility is assumed by Sylvan Learning Centers, their respective subsidiaries, parents, partners, or other contest sponsors for lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or illegible entries. All entries become the property of Contest Providers and will not be returned to the Contestant. Sponsor further reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is alleged to infringe on any third-party’s intellectual property rights, or that Sponsor deems obscene, offensive or otherwise inappropriate for viewing by a general audience. Contestants acknowledge and agree that Sponsor shall have the right to edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, publish, promote, or otherwise display or use entries in any way it sees fit without limitation or compensation to contestants.
WINNER SELECTION: From all eligible entries received, 6 Grand Prize winners will be selected by a panel of judges Winners will be selected by February 1, 2007. Selection is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with conditions. A panel of qualified judges selected by Sylvan Learning Centers will judge all eligible entries according to the following criteria: most inspirational stories. The ratings scale for each criterion will range from one (1) to ten (10), with ten (10) being the best score. Judging will conclude within five (5) days after the end of the Contest Period and the entries with the four highest cumulative scores will be designated the Winner. In the event of a tie, tied entries will be re-judged on the same criteria listed above. Decisions of judges and Sylvan Learning Centers shall be final and binding in all respects.
ODDS OF WINNING: Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
PRIZEs:
The first hundred entrants in the “Teachers Who Make a Difference” contest will receive a pair of tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters February 21, 2008, at the Tacoma Dome or February 22 or 24, 2008, at Comcast Arena at Everett Events Center. Winners will be notified by e-mail or mail. Details provided to the winners.
Each of the six winning teachers will receive their choice of a trip for 2 to Hawaii or $1,000 cash. Trip will include airfare to Oahu and accommodations for 5 nights. All vacation packages are for the winning person and one guest of his/her choice. Travelers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. Vacation packages may not be redeemed for cash, sold, traded or transferred. Vacation fulfillment is subject to certain restrictions and is subject to hotel availability. Advanced reservations required. Certain travel restrictions, blackout dates and holiday restrictions may also apply. Upgrade may be available for an additional cost. Winner is responsible for travel to and from departure location. Winner is responsible for all expenses not expressly provided for above including, meals, beverages, souvenirs, entertainment, incidentals, tips, parking, telephone calls, or other personal expenses incurred during or in connection with the trip.) Vacation/prize must be fulfilled/claimed by December 31, 2008.
Approximate retail value of grand prize trip package: $1,600 US.
Winner is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local income and any other taxes, fees and surcharges. An IRS Form 1099 will be issued for all prizes with a retail value in excess of $600. Contest Providers reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
WINNER NOTIFICATION: Winners will be notified on or about February12 by telephone number, U.S. mail and/or overnight courier provided on the winner's entry. Failure to reach winner may result in disqualification of winner, forfeiture of his or her interest in all prizes, and selection of a substitute winner from among all remaining eligible entries. Return of prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. Winners may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility, and a liability and publicity release (except where prohibited by law) which must be returned within ten (10) days of date of personal delivery or date of postmark. Failure to sign and return the affidavit or release within ten (10) days, or to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, may result in a winner’s disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to a substitute winner.
USE OF CONTEST INFORMATION: Contestants grant to Contest Providers, and Contest Providers reserve, the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information provided by Contestants in connection with the Contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law. By accepting a prize, winner(s) may be required to sign a release that grants permission to Contest Providers to use his or her name, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information and/or biographical information for publicity and promotional purposes without future compensation unless prohibited by law. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Contest Providers, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest or any prize won.
CONDUCT: By entering the Contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules. Contestants further agree to be bound by the decisions of the Contest Providers, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Contest Providers reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any individual they find to be tampering with the entry process or to be acting in violation of the Official Rules.
You agree that in your participation in the Contest you will not use obscene, libelous or slanderous language, or language that infringes upon a third party's trademark, trade name or other intellectual property right or right of privacy. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sylvan Learning Centers their respective subsidiaries, parents, partners, or other contest sponsors, officers, consultants, agents, and employees against and from all claims, damages liabilities, costs and expenses asserted by third parties alleging that the Contest includes obscenity, libel, slander, or infringes upon the third party's intellectual property or privacy rights, as a direct result of your actions in connection with the Contest. You further agree to not knowingly damage or cause interruption of the Contest or to prevent others' participation in the Contest.
LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Winners assume liability for losses or injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the Contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize. Contest Providers are not responsible: (i) for any lost, late, illegible, incomplete, postage-due, misdirected or mutilated mail; or (ii) for any incorrect or inaccurate information, in the Contest or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions in the Contest. Contest Providers assume no responsibility for an error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction of authorized access to, or alteration of, entries. If the Contest is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including legal restrictions, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or any other causes beyond the control of Contest Providers that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Contest Providers reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.
RULES / WINNERS LIST: Official Rules and the names of the winners may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope to: Sylvan Co-op of Puget Sound, c/o CMMS, 7011 23rd Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98115. Indicate “Teachers Who Make a Difference Official Rules” or “Teachers Who Make a Difference Winner List" on the outside of the envelope as applicable. Limit one (1) request per envelope. The request must include the name of the contest. Winner List will be available 5 days after the winners are confirmed. GENERAL CONDITIONS: This Contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law. |
