Reporter Joe Fryer and team of photographers recognized for feature storytelling
SEATTLE — Recipients of the 79th Annual National Headliner Awards were announced today and a team of KING 5 journalists received first place honors. Reporter Joe Fryer, photographers Matt Mrozinski, Pete Cassam, Dave Wike and Eric Wold each contributed to the award winning entry.
“Ali’s Guiding Lights” won first place in the category of Feature, Sports or Human Interest Story by a Broadcast or Cable Station. It is the story of a group of extraordinary students who came together to help a classmate, who is nearly blind, experience what every teen wants…to drive.
“This story is a celebration of all that is good about people and the kindness which lives inside of everyone” said Mark Ginther, KING 5 News Director. “Joe, Matt, Pete, Eric and Dave did an extraordinary job capturing every moment of this extreme act of goodness. Their storytelling expertise was showcased and gave everyone who saw it a chance to live in her moment.”
The 79th National Headliner Awards were founded in 1934 by the Press Club of Atlantic City. The annual contest is one of the oldest and largest in the country that recognizes journalistic merit in the communications industry.
