SEATTLE—KING 5 News is pleased to announce that Scott Jensen is rejoining the station in May. As chief photographer, he will be responsible for guiding KING 5’s award-winning photojournalist team in the station’s tradition of utilizing powerful visuals in storytelling.

Jensen was part of the team that brought KING 5 the National Press Photographers Association’s (NPPA) Large Market Television News Photography Station of the Year honor in 2011. Most recently he was chief photographer and managing editor of special projects at KTVA, a CBS affiliate in Anchorage. Prior to that he was the 2011 Atwood Chair of Journalism at the University of Alaska, where he taught upper division courses and mentored aspiring journalists and filmmakers. Jensen has also worked as a photojournalist at KTUU (Anchorage), NorthWest Cable News (Portland) and KARE (Minneapolis).

Jensen has twice been named the Ernie Crisp Television News Photographer of the Year, the highest honor in the country given to a working television photojournalist. Besides KING, he was part of the photojournalist team when KARE was named Station of the Year in 2001. He was also on the KTUU team when it received the same honor for small market television in 2006, 2008 and 2010. In 10 years he has received 17 Regional Emmy awards, 12 Edward R. Murrow awards, and cited as Regional Television News Photographer of the Year by the NPPA five times, in addition to numerous other accolades from industry associations.

“Scott is one of the very best photojournalists in the country,” says Mark Ginther, executive news director of KING 5, KONG 6/16 and Northwest Cable News. “He recognizes the importance of marrying words and video to create the best stories. As chief photographer he will set the visual agenda for our organization, which will continue to enhance the experience our viewers have with KING 5. Scott's reputation will also allow us to continue to recruit the best and the brightest reporters and photojournalists.”
