Seattle, WA – KING 5 News is the recipient of seven of the thirteen regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2010 for excellence in electronic journalism for large market television stations in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington State.

Announced today by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the Murrow Awards recognize excellence that Edward R. Murrow established as the standard for electronic news.

“It’s a great honor for our station to win multiple regional Edward R. Murrow Awards,” said Mark Ginther, executive news director of KING 5 News. “The Murrow name is synonymous with integrity and excellence in broadcast journalism and we at KING 5 do our best to provide that same high quality news professionalism here in the Puget Sound area.”

Of the 13 categories for the five-state region, every award winning category came from a Seattle area TV station and KING 5 won more than KIRO 7 and KOMO 4 combined. By winning regional RTDNA awards, KING 5 is automatically eligible for the national Murrow awards competition in June.
Since 1971, RTDNA honors outstanding achievement in electronic journalism by bestowing Murrow Awards. News managers from radio, television, and online news organizations (for the first time) judged entries in March with the winners made public today.
