SEATTLE—In a stunning show of excellence in broadcasting, KING 5 was honored with a record 27 statuettes at the 49th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards on June 2. These multiple honors were awarded station-wide and represented 35% of the 76 awards conferred throughout the evening. The station received a record 95 nominations in the awards competition.
In addition to the overall award for Station Excellence, KING 5 was recognized for storytelling, producing, writing, talent and its renowned Promise image campaign.
Reporter John Sharify received the most awards, for Feature News Report - Light Feature, Environment - News, Program Host/Moderator, Reporter - General Assignment, Reporter - Programming, Writer - News and Writer - Program.
Photographer Douglas Burgess received awards in three craft categories: Photographer - Program, Editor - News and Editor - Program. Other craft honors went to Chief Meteorologist Jeff Renner, Anchor - Weather; Chris Egan, Anchor - Sports; and Matt Mrozinski, Photographer - News.
Kellie Cheadle, Steve Douglas, Robert Mak and Peter O’Connell each received two EMMY® awards. The complete list of 27 awards is as follows:
