KING 5 Reporter Joe Fryer and team of photographers recognized for feature storytelling by the Society of Professional Journalists

SEATTLE —The Sigma Delta Chi Awards were announced today and a KING 5 Feature Report is, once again, best in its class.  This is the second national award for a story called “Ali’s Guiding Lights,” produced by Reporter Joe Fryer, Photographers Matt Mrozinski, Pete Cassam, Dave Wike and Eric Wold.

It is a story of courage, compassion and a celebration of kindness when students come together to help a classmate, who is nearly blind, experience what every teen wants…to drive.

"The team that won this award deserves all the accolades possible," said Ray Heacox, President of KING 5. "This was a story well told by a reporter, working with incredible photographers shooting in the most challenging conditions and it will warm everyone's heart!  I could not be more proud."

Last week, the 79th Annual National Headliner Awards recognized “Ali’s Guiding Lights” with first place honors in the category of Feature, Sports or Human Interest Story by a Broadcast or Cable Station.  Today “Ali’s Guiding Lights” is also the recipient of a highly coveted Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Society of Professional Journalists have held their annual Sigma Delta Chi Awards since 1939. The awards recognize the best in professional journalism in categories covering print, radio, television, newsletters art/graphics, online and research.
