Seeing someone who is in need is difficult for just about everyone. When it comes to children, it is even harder to witness and almost impossible to ignore. Chad Morse, from Snap-On Tools, heard a news story about a woman who put extra water in her baby’s formula because she did not have the money to buy enough formula. Around the same time he saw an ad for Home Team Harvest and decided this was going to be his avenue to help.
Chad and his colleague Jeff Battien led an effort at Snap-On Tools to raise $5,000 that first year. Their goal was to purchase food to help feed children. They both believed that it was never the kids fault when their family was struggling, and they didn’t want to see kids suffer. When they took their money to purchase items at Costco, Chad said it, “knocked him off his butt” how expensive diapers and formula were.
This last year Chad and Jeff recruited one more member from Snap-On Tools to help lead their fundraising efforts. Steve Harkleroad explained to me that the reason he felt so passionate about helping Chad and Jeff was because of the strong faith he has in Northwest Harvest. He said that it is a realistic organization that has an immediate impact because people need food…every day.
Now in its 6th year of participating in Home Team Harvest, Snap-On Tools and their customers are pretty well tuned -in about the campaign. For two weeks the Company sells raffle tickets to win tool boxes. They also sell clothing and hats, merchandise that customers give them very generous donations for.
Besides feeling good about giving back, what is the best part of their participation in Home Team Harvest for the guys at Snap-On Tools? The annual outing to Costco! All of them raved about how much fun it was to drive forklifts around Costco purchasing pallets of items to donate.
The excitement around Home Team Harvest and their company fundraiser allowed them to purchase $15,000 of items, enough to fill three trucks of donations last year. The team is hoping it continues to snowball like it has in the last few years…and of course they are looking forward to their annual “playdate” at Costco.
