The other day I noticed some great photos of some fox kittens and I sent an e-mail to the photographer, hoping they could tell me more about the photos and maybe send me some more shots.
It turns out that the photos were taken by 13-year-old Daphne Avery, who lives on San Juan Island. She was on a trip to the beach with her family when she spotted the kits and started taking pictures.
“I had a feeling of pure love when I saw them,” she said in an e-mail. “I love animals just as much as I love my family.”
Daphne says all of the kits were interested in her and her camera, and one even started trotting up to her.
“I was a bit nervous, so I backed away,” she said. “There were a couple people that tried to scare the kits away even though they knew I was trying to take a couple of pictures, and it really bothered me, but I didn't give up!”
"When I got home, I thought about the kits and said to myself, 'The mother of all those kits should be proud of herself," she said.
Daphne, who attends Friday Harbor Middle School, says she enjoys drawing and photography, but her favorite hobby is writing. I hope she keeps it up.
