The new Auburn Valley Humane Society celebrates with a grand opening ceremony and open house on Saturday.
A group of residents and seven Auburn veterinarians banded together to form a nonprofit group to establish the local animal shelter to care for the city's lost, stray and abandoned pet population.
For decades, the City had contracted with King County Animal Control for animal services, but in 2010, budget shortfalls forced KCAC to shift administrative costs to the participating member cities.
The group of vets, business owners and citizens worked for years to put together the Auburn Valley Humane Society, which they say is much more than just “the pound.” They say it’s also a community education center where pets and people can come together. They will offer pet related seminars from local veterinarians and staff on topics ranging from grooming to diabetes.
Ceremonies at 11:30 a.m.
Open house at AVHS: 12 noon-4 p.m.
