Volunteers are working hard to build an off-leash dog park in Kirkland and if they win acontest hosted by PetSafe they'll get $100,000 for construction of the park.
"We're one of 15 finalists," said Amy Introligator of The Kirkland Off-Leash Dog Group (KDOG) says the group.
KDOG has been working with the City of Kirkland since 2010 when the City Council approved the recommendation of the Park Board to explore a possible site for an off-leash dog area for dogs.
The city-owned, undeveloped site is located at the southwest corner of 113th Avenue NE and NE 120th Avenue in the South Juanita/Totem Lake area.
Amy says the group has gotten a commitment form Seattle Veterinary Specialists to provide ongoing maintenance for several years.
The plan is to open the park some time this fall.
Kirkland supporters are encouraged to vote at www.barkforyourpark.com once each day through August 3, 2011.
As of this writing, Kirkland is No. 8, so be sure to vote. You don't have to be a Kirkland resident to vote.
