I went for a hike on Thursday on the Rattlesnake Ridge trail between Snoqualmie and North Bend and saw a "missing" sign that broke my heart. Thirteen-year-old "Misty" had disappeared the day before.
Cheryl Hanson of Snoqualmie says she was hiking on the old Winery Road with friends and several other dogs when Misty vanished.
“She lagged behind because she likes to smell and we turned around and she was gone. It was that fast. We were right in front of her,” Cheryl said.
Cheryl says the King County Canine Rescue Group happened to be training in the area at the time.
Normally they use their dogs to search for humans but they needed to practice so they helped search for Misty.
“She’s old, she can’t hear, but she loves to hike,” Cheryl said. “We’ve been doing it every day for years, rain or shine.”
Cheryl says the Forest Service told her they've seen evidence of cougars in the area.
“They could just get her and pull her off and we wouldn’t hear a thing,” she said.
“Nobody stole her – she didn’t run off because she doesn’t run,” Cheryl said.
Cheryl is working with Three Rivers Rescue and many people have been out looking for Misty. Hopefully somebody will find the sweet old girl.
