A group of "comfort dogs" is in Newtown, Conn., helping traumatized and grieving families in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Lutheran Church Charities K9 Comfort Dogs and their handlers attended the memorial where Pres. Obama spoke on Sunday.

The team of Golden Retrievers responded to Hurricane Sandy and the tornado in Joplin, Mo.

According to the Lutheran Church Charities website, New England District President, Rev. Timothy Yeadon asked for the Comfort Dogs to come.

The dogs - Abbi, Barnabas, Chewie, Hannah, Luther, Prince, Ruthie, and Shami -  are working in cooperation with Rev Robert Morris and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown for the rest of the week.

Each dog has a Facebook page and an e-mail address to stay keep in contact with people they've touched.
