Springtime means baby bird time, and you might find songbird nests in some unusual places.
The Redmond Home Depot store has flagged one of their hanging baskets in the garden center because a pair of juncos has decided to raise a family in it. Shoppers find themselves being scolded by the angry parents.
It won't take long for the babies to fledge, but in the meantime, a sign asks people not to disturb the basket.
By the way, it's a myth that birds will reject their young if touched by humans, so if you accidentally knock a bird's nest out of a tree or bush, retrieve it and the chicks, and re-nest them in the same location.
If the nest is destroyed, use a nest-sized wicker basket and secure it firmly where the original nest was and watch for the parents to return.
