A Bainbridge Island rescue group is looking for information after they received six dogs they believe could be part of an as-yet-undiscovered puppy mill.
Suzannah Sloan, Director of Furrytale Farm, says the dogs are in "deplorable condition" and three need reconstructive surgery.
She said one dog has a jaw half rotted out from a fracture that was never treated, two can't walk, two have teeth that are so rotted the bone has atrophied away and the holes go right into the nose.
"One is just riddled with tumors. I don't think we'll be able to save her," said Sloan.
Sloan said the woman who brought the dogs to Furrytale said they were dumped on her Mason County property and it took a month to catch them. But Sloan's vet said the dogs are too well-fed to have been on their own all that time.
Sloan said when questioned further, the woman clammed up and wouldn't give her name or any other information.
Sloan is hoping somebody will recognize the dogs or have some information if indeed there is a puppy mill someplace.
"I just want to know where they came from," she said. "They are so sweet it just breaks my heart."
