Six dogs removed from a Bothell home last week are being cared for by Pasado's Safe Haven. Pasado's staff said when they took in the Shih Tzus and West Highland terriers, they were so matted they were barely recognizable as dogs.
Their nails were up to five inches long and there was garbage imbedded in the filthy mats.
The owner of the dogs, who could face animal cruelty charges, surrendered them to King County.
The dogs are part of an investigation into possible animal hoarding.
On their Web site, Pasado's has a slide show of the amazing transformation of one of the little dogs as it is shaved and cleaned up.
In one account, caretaker Vicki G. said," "The vet techs had a hard time trying to shave an enormous mat from under one of the dog's necks. They struggled to get the matt free and finally, they were successful. That's when one of the vet techs started scratching the dog's neck - the dog was in heaven - there is no way to describe how happy she looked. It was the first time in who knows how long that this dog felt fresh air on her skin. We all cried."
The little dogs will need lots of love and care and rehab. If you'd like to contribute, go to www.pasadosafehaven.org/donate
