What Seattle Police do with seized or surrendered firearms

For at least the last 20 years, firearms seized by Seattle Police or turned in voluntarily by citizens are ultimately destroyed, a practice also followed by the King County Sheriff's Office.

Other law enforcement agencies in Western Washington sell firearms to licensed dealers, usually exchanging the weapons for credit that's used to buy needed police equipment.
