ALS Association Evergreen Chapter Board President Kathy Holt reacts to the VA's change to their
disability rating system.
Beginning January 19, the VA will rate veterans with ALS 100 percent disabled upon the diagnosis. The change means veterans won’t have to be constantly re-evaluated to determine a rating and benefits should arrive much faster.

The VA should cover them 100%. I work for the South Sound Regional MDA/ALS, and know for a fact ALS patients get 100% disability as soon as the diagnosis is made. There is no waiting period! This disease is hard enough to deal with much less having the patient wait for ever to get the disability. ALS patients do not have time to sit around waiting for coverage. They already are on borrowed time with the diagnosis. We need to move with making better awareness to ALS. This is a terminal disease people. There is no cure.
