If you happen to be at the Torchlight Parade Saturday night, watch for people in red.

Educators and public school supporters from throughout the Puget Sound area plan to crash the parade as part of a local call to action for education.

Save Our Schools rallies are planned around the country Saturday. Here in Washington, supporters are being urged to join into both the Torchlight Parade and the Silverdale Whaling Days Parade earlier in the day.

According to a news release from organizers on the national level, the group is, "demanding an end to the destructive polices and rhetoric that have eroded confidence in our public schools, demoralized teachers and reduced the education of too many of our children to nothing more than test preparation."

Local organizers point out that Washington state ranks 49th in the nation in school funding and 49th in the nation in student-to-teacher ratio. They're urging people to "wear red for public ed" to show their support for their cause.

A rally is planned at the Seattle Center International Fountain at 6 p.m., before joining the parade in progress. In checking with Seafair, the group is not registered to participate in the parade and won't be allowed to join the parade along the route. Security for the parade is expected to be tight.

A rally in Washington, D.C. is scheduled to begin at noon (EDT) Saturday on the Ellipse.
