I’ve got a black Lab named Guinness. Love that guy! When we went to our yearly check-up a few years back, his weight had crept up and the doc suggested that I aim for taking him for more walks and be more conscious of his food intake.
Skip ahead to last May and Guinness (along with me) crossed the finish line at Auburn’s Dog Trot 3K/5K Fun Run in the top 20. We did the 3K last year, but aim to do the 5K this year! I’ve already submitted our registration.
The course is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages and ability levels. There’s water available on the course for both human and animal participants. Expect to see a few dogs in shoe-type accessories, which just cracks me up! An added bonus was the goodie bag!! Not only did I get a free event T-Shirt, but I also got a goodie bag with all kinds of food samples, treat samples, dog toys, a can cover and even a pet magazine! Apparently, the first 100 to register get the goodie bag, but I would have been happy enough with the awesome shirt!
Another thing I didn’t realize was that the Dog Trot event was held in conjunction with a ‘little’ pet festival known as Petpalooza. You probably can’t catch my sarcasm in this blog, but Petpalooza is HUUUUUUGE! I had heard about it, but hadn’t attended. It blew my expectations out of the park! I’d recommend registering for the Dog Trot (and do it before the early deadline cutoff to save yourself five bucks) and then sticking around for the Petpalooza.
Both events will be held on Saturday, May 19th at Auburn’s Game Farm Park. The Dog Trot is at 9:30am (course open till 11:00am); Petpalooza from 10:00am – 5:00pm. Guinness and I hope to see you there!
