The Inaugural Seattle Mariners Grounds Crew Charity Golf Event and Gala
The Seattle Mariners Grounds Crew has put together events to help benefit charitable organizations in the Greater Seattle Area over the past 5 years. Fundraisers began in 2004 with a Christmas Caroling event in Tacoma, WA with proceeds going to Special Olympics. The following four years we held similar events at Safeco Field with proceeds benefitting Northwest Harvest. Our efforts saw first year contributions of $1,500.00 grow to nearly $8,000.00 in 2009.
This year we plan to host a Golf Tournament and Gala to be held at Jackson Park Golf Course on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000.00 with all proceeds again benefitting Northwest Harvest. We plan to host 144 golfers with a shotgun start at 8:00 am finishing with a lunch and awards ceremony. We have been looking for sponsors to help defray the costs associated with running a charitable golf tournament such as this. Sponsorships can come in the form of cash donations to offset golf course costs, golf cart costs, meals, and beverage costs. We are also looking for prize donations which can come it the form of gifts, certificates, etc.
We hope this is the beginning of future annual golf events to continue our efforts in raising money for those needy organizations in our community. No one on the grounds crew will be paid. We all want to help our community through our efforts.
The Seattle Mariner Grounds crew is comprised of Head Groundskeeper Bob Christofferson, two full-time assistants, and 20 part time game-day associates. The entire crew has been helping with this cause and will be on site, not as golfers but as hosts, the day of the event to make sure all behind the scenes duties are completed.
