The London Bureau KING5 Yellow Jacket has been auctioned, bringing in $400 in “Gasman’s KJR Kares-a-thon” last Friday.
I haven’t heard who bought it but they should know that I count 29 different Olympic Medalists among the dozens of athletes who took the time to autograph it.
It has soccer players and basketball players and judo fighters, divers and rowers and cyclists, sprinters and wrestlers and shooters.
There are signatures from Hope Solo, Summer Sanders, Nathan Adrian, Sue Bird, Natalie Coughlin, Travis Stevens, Marti Malloy, Nastia Liukin.
It has been signed by international superstars and local Olympians, from Oak Harbor, Tacoma, Kirkland, University Place, Bremerton, Auburn and Spokane, by athletes who play for the Storm and the Sounders Women, who rowed and cycled and swam for the UW. Plus a few KING5 anchor-types and Nathan Adrian’s entire family. It’s a pretty good group.
So, here’s a huge thank you to everyone who put ink to Yellow water-resistant fabric during the 2012 Olympics and to everyone who bid on a truly one-of-a-kind item. That 400 bucks goes to Northwest Literacy, The Lorenzo Romar Foundation and the Central Area Youth Association.
And whoever entered the final bid, feel free to drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on the Yellow Jacket.
