The 11th Annual Childhaven Dinner and Auction is Monday, November 5.

Hello, my name is Amy Scott. I am one of the many alumni from Childhaven.

As a child, my sisters and I attended the Eli Creekmore branch in Burien WA. We ended up at Childhaven because my mother was the single parent of six children suffering from depression and alcohol addiction.

Life for her was tough. When my mother was referred to Childhaven, my sisters and I were under the age of 5. I am now 28 years old and I still feel connected to Childhaven.

Childhaven is more than just a center. Childhaven is a place where children can feel safe and loved instead of feeling hurt. Through all my time at Childhaven, I never focused on the situation my mother was in, I can only remember feeling happy to go to Childhaven each day. Weather it was to play with my dearest friends, or even seeing my favorite teachers, those are memories I cherish to this day.

What I’ve learned from Childhaven is that, no matter what, never give up! Since they never gave up on my mother, she never gave up on her kids. I am now a mother of two living with a disease called lupus. There have been many occasions where I felt like giving up, but I didn’t! Thanks to the example displayed by my mother, I know how to be a loving strong mother to my children. If I ever felt like I needed some encouragement or support, I knew I could always count on Childhaven to be in my corner.

I am thankful for Childhaven and the work their doing. Because of the experience I had at Childhaven as a child, I am now working on my AA in social work followed by my BA. There are many success stories out of Childhaven, and many more to come.

Thank you Childhaven for never giving up.
