Not only does the Northshore Galaxy Girls Soccer Team kick tail on the soccer field, but they also bring that same enthusiasm to community service! As first year participants in Home Team Harvest these girls are coming with a goal bigger than you’d expect.

They started out collecting food individually. Prior to Thanksgiving the girls made flyers to send out to family and friends asking for food donations. But as we all know, girls can be competitive! So they challenged the North Shore boys’ team to a friendly game of soccer. The entry fee? The boys had to bring food donations as well.

Instead of a traditional team party this year the girls are focusing on Home Team harvest. Last night the team had a poster making party which included lots of glitter and laughter. Today they took their signs to their local QFC to stand outside and collect more food.

Filling a soccer goal with food donations is no easy task. These girls are on it and their hope is that by tomorrow, December 7th they will show up to the Bothell Safeway with that goal filled!

Heather Sabatini, head coach of the Galaxy Girls team told me that at ages 13 and 14 these girls are really focusing on what they need to eat to make sure they have enough fuel and energy to last a full 90 minute soccer game. However, she and the rest of the team realized that there are probably a lot of kids out there who wish they had the opportunity to play soccer, but instead struggle with finding enough good food to eat. Mallory Harder, a defensive player on the team explained that they all agreed they had so much fun this season and are so grateful for what they have so they wanted to give to people who are not as fortunate as them.

The Galaxy Girls are a part of the Northshore Soccer Club. They have already had a ball this year collecting donations and they plan on making this a yearly team tradition. Their hope is that they will get the whole club involved so they will be able to fill an even larger goal next year!

We will be at the Bothell Safeway but make sure to stop by your nearest Home Team Harvest donation site tomorrow and say hello to the Home Team!
