“You always want to instill good into your children. When a youngster wants to put forward and help because they have good things, it makes you really proud, especially if they want to continue down the road.” This is what Rob Pedrini, GM of boat company Pacific Nautiques told me about his family experience.
About thirteen years ago his son was watching a program on TV and asked, “how can we help feed people dad?” Together they looked in the cupboard, grabbed all of the items they could, and went to Southcenter to donate to Home Team Harvest.
This is just one of the many generous acts the Pedrini family has shared throughout the generations. The family started a grocery business in 1932, which played an integral part in the community and Rob’s upbringing. Rob still has a cigar box full of IOU’s customers gave them during times when they did not have enough money to put food on the table. After being out of the business for ten years, this box serves as a reminder of the motto Rob’s grandparents taught him at the store, “we are all in this together.”
What started as a father-son outing to donate some food items has evolved into one of Home Team Harvest’s largest and most fun donations. A “boat load of food” sounds like a lot, but when I tell you they literally donate a boat load of food…try and imagine that.
Pacific Nautiques' tradition; led by Rob, Ron Gius & Doug McCollum, is to cram all available spaces and compartments of a boat with food items. They decorate the boat with lights and blast Christmas music as they drive through Auburn spreading holiday cheer and bringing smiles to many.
Rob shared with me he already has a few hundred pounds of food collected so far. He expects this to continue to grow while they try and reach their goal of 10,000 pounds this year! Their campaign involves collecting donations from customers, providing discounted services for customers who donate food, and donating special items from their shop, like professional autographed wakeboards.
The commitment Pacific Nautiques puts forth to Home Team Harvest inspires almost everyone who learns of it. In fact, approximately 99% of their customers are willing to help. It brings together Rob’s family members and friends who all enjoy the memorable morning they get to spend on the boat unloading the donations.
Rob Pedrini is someone who cares and finds it fulfilling to get people involved to come together for the good of the community. His passion can be seen in his son, his family, and every employee at Pacific Nautiques. Together Rob and I came up with a new challenge. He is asking every boat owner to please help by making some type of donation to Northwest Harvest this year.
Will you join Rob and KING 5 in making a donation?
