I rode in the inaugural Bike For Banchero event in 2011 and it was a blast! I may have underestimated the challenge of the nearly 40 mile course, but the beautiful sunny September skies, lake and farm views, and camaraderie of other bikers made it easy to see the ride through to the finish. Remlinger Farms in Carnation was a ideal starting and ending location.
Speaking of the finish, once I caught my breath and drank some water, I joined a much larger group for a catered BBQ. There I was joined by my wife and kids who had spent the morning playing at Remlinger's farm-themed amusement park with the discounted tickets that my bike entry earned. The BBQ featured great food, non-alcoholic beverages, and freshly brewed Redhook beer! One of the highlights of the BBQ was hearing from some representative of Banchero Friends Services about the organization and meeting some of the clients they serve. It felt great to be a part of a successful local grass-roots organization making a difference in people's lives.
The jersey that came with my $85 entry fee was of top quality and super cool looking-- I still wear it all the time! Between the great workout, the food, the SWAG, and the chance to make a difference in other people's lives-- the whole event was a win-win! I'm definitely going to participate in the 2nd Annual Bike for Banchero and will be bringing more friends along!
