It’s that time of year when we begin to dream of spring, and of the first ripe quart of berries. As we wait, however, there are many places we can go to find locally grown farm products now and throughout the winter at Pike Place Market.

Foodies, locavores and farm stand supporters can find a wide variety of both fresh and value-added products from Market farmers. Tulips and hyacinth from Alm Hill Gardens and Santos Farms brighten winter days. Hearty buffalo and beef pepperoni and jerky from Stewart’s Meat Market maketerrific snacks for ski and snowshoes trips.

Missing fresh pints of blueberries? Try blueberry syrup, vinegar and conserves from Canter-Berry Farm. Local honey from Sweet Success drizzled on top of warm biscuits are a great addition to Sunday brunch.

Visit one of the Market’s exceptional produce stands such as Sosio’s and Frank’s to carry a variety of the highest quality apples - Jazz , Fuji, Granny Smith, Pacific Rose - pears, sunchokes, potatoes, shallots, onions and even mushrooms sourced from farms in Yakima, Wenatchee and the Seattle area. (Don’t stop there though. Grapefruit is in season now and they are bursting with Florida sunshine flavor.)

Here’s a quick cheat sheet of value-added farm products for your next trip to the Market:
•    Tulips and hyacinth from Alm Hill Gardens and Santos Farms
•    Dried flowers from many of our Hmong farmers
•    Buffalo and beef pepperoni and jerky from Stewart's Meat Market
•    Blueberry syrup, vinegar and conserves from Canter-Berry Farm
•    Hazelnuts from Holmquist Hazelnuts
•    Honey from Sweet Success
•    Apples and cider from Martin Family Orchards

As many locals know, the winter months can be one of the best times to visit the Market!
