Join me at the Heart and Stroke Walk

My father Arthur, 92, is likely the longest living survivor of a defibrillator in the Seattle area. On August 22, 1974, my dad, then superintendent of Wayne Golf Course, opened the club house as he had every morning. That is the last thing he remembers of that day.

Hank Jacobson, a friend of my father’s, got up earlier than usual to try and beat his friend to the newspaper. When Hank arrived, he found my dad unconscious on the floor, not breathing andwithout apulse. He had just taken a CPR class and knew to begin chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth breathing. A short time later, the Bothell fire department responded to the 9-1-1 call packing a brand new portable AED (automatic external defibrillator)that was not yet fully integrated with the hospital’s ER system.

Al Anderson, one of the firemen on the scene and a good friend of my dad’s, read the heart monitor showing a flat line - no heartbeat. He made the decision to try using the AED. Amazingly, his heart started to respond.

Today, my dad plays golf on Thursday mornings and lives with my mom, Valerie; they are currently celebrating their 69th year of marriage!

This year, I’m so proud to participate in Puget Sound Heart and Stroke Walk with my Philips team(my third) because my father and Al Anderson, the man who saved his live, will walk the survivor route with my father, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren!

Gratitude and thanks!
