On February 25th, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), held its 6th Annual “Music for the Mind” benefit gala.  KING 5 and NWCN anchor, Shaniqua Manning served as the evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies. A former UNCF board member, Shaniqua spoke of giving in a time when students are struggling to finish college in the face of financial issues.

The event raised $100,000 to support the UNCF Pacific Northwest Scholarship Fund and Campaign for Emergency Student Aid. Over 220 guests enjoyed dinner, silent and live auctions, and live music at Seattle’s Experience Music Project Museum.

The gala recognized local UNCF students and scholarship recipients, and UNCF member schools. The event also highlighted the Dr. Frederick D. Patterson Award recipients, Chef Wayne Johnson and Comcast Cable. The award honors individuals and organizations who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to and belief in the UNCF’s mission.

The United Negro College Fund is the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization. To date, UNCF has supported more than 60,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities across the country.
