I was thrilled to pick up the phone last week and hear Robert Johnson, Assistant Principal at Edmonds Woodway High School on the other end of the line. He called to let us know the Warriors had decided to take up the fight against summer hunger!
Robert is the kind of guy that when you talk to him you get inspired by his enthusiasm, which I’m sure motivates his students. He has such a positive, can-do attitude; I knew right away he would make sure the campaign was a success.
Here’s a bit of what he had to say:
"Can we focus on getting money over food? We’re pushing cash over cans because the money gives Northwest Harvest tremendous buying power. For every .67 cents we can feed a family of three a nutritious meal. We’re hoping to collect a few thousand dollars and that will be a lot of meals.”
The Edmonds Woodway Warriors are also passing collection cans around campus during lunch and encouraging one another to donate. Students have embraced the mission with true Warrior spirit and will being collecting funds before and after school next week as a final push for the food drive.
I am eager see how many dollars they raise and I know they are excited to calculate how many meals they will bring to local families.
Thanks for being part of the Summer Hunger Challenge, Go Warriors!
